The validity date on the approval is not a three-month holiday allowance. It is the period in which the traveller may seek first entry. The stay is limited to one month after admission.

Austria, not Australia

Austrians should check nationality fields slowly. English-language travel forms, airline profiles and support emails sometimes make Austria and Australia look similar in a dropdown. Choose Austria, Austrian passport and the correct passport country code. Do not allow an old browser autofill record for Australia to complete a Cambodia visa form.

This matters because the visa, e-Arrival and airline reservation must all point to the same nationality and passport. A mismatch may be treated as a document error even when the traveller's name and photograph are correct. Review the approval PDF as soon as it arrives, while there is still time to ask for guidance.

Anyone with dual nationality should decide which passport will be used for the Cambodian visa before buying final tickets. The same passport should be used for check-in, eVisa, e-Arrival, entry and departure unless official instructions require otherwise.

Austrian umlauts and MRZ spelling

Austrian names may contain Ä, Ö or Ü, ß, hyphenated surnames, particles, academic titles or multiple given names. Cambodia forms should be completed from the passport, not from a German-language mail signature, an Austrian e-card, a driving licence or a shortened airline profile.

If a form cannot accept umlauts or ß, compare the passport's machine-readable zone. International systems may render Müller, Muellner or other names without marks depending on the passport spelling and MRZ. The key is consistency: visa, e-Arrival and ticket should not show three different versions of the same name.

Do not enter academic titles unless the passport identity field requires them. If the passport will be renewed before travel, complete renewal first and apply with the new document. An approval linked to an old passport number creates avoidable border risk.

Vienna and regional routes

Many Austrian travellers leave from Vienna, while others connect from Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck, Linz, Munich, Bratislava, Prague or Zurich. Common onward hubs include Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Paris, Seoul, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Cambodia form should name the Cambodian entry point, not the transit airport.

For eVisa use, the airport choices are KTI at Techo, SAI at Siem Reap Angkor, and KOS at Sihanoukville. The land choices are Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are temporarily closed for eVisa entry.

Road journeys need exact checkpoint planning. A route sold as Thailand to Siem Reap may imply Poipet, which is not available for current eVisa entry. A Vietnam-to-Cambodia leg may use Bavet. A Laos-to-Cambodia leg may use Tropaeng Kreal. Confirm before payment and again near departure.

Documents and evidence

• Ordinary Austrian passport in good condition and valid for the itinerary.

The Austrian passport is the controlling identity document. Keep copies organised by traveller if applying for a family, and label files by passport name and number to avoid mixing approvals.

Application workflow from Austria

1. Confirm purpose. Type T is for tourism or a short private visit, not employment or residence.
2. Verify country selection. Choose Austria, not Australia, and confirm the passport nationality.
3. Check Austrian spelling. Use the passport and MRZ approach for umlauts or ß when required.
4. Select an eligible port. Use KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet or Tropaeng Kreal for eVisa entry.
5. Upload files carefully. Review focus, glare, page edges, orientation and portrait quality.

Fees, EUR cards and timing

Cambodia lists Type T at USD 90. Austrian travellers paying with a euro card should expect the issuer to convert or settle the transaction according to its own rate and fee schedule. If bank authentication fails, check pending authorisations before opening a new case.

Standard processing is three business days. A practical application window is usually one to two weeks before the trip, allowing time for image replacement, bank checks, weekends, Cambodian holidays and route corrections while preserving the three-month entry validity.

Count timing from entry into Cambodia. A Vienna departure may arrive in Cambodia one or two calendar days later after a long connection. The e-Arrival seven-day window and the first-use validity should be calculated using the Cambodian arrival date.

e-Arrival and arrival presentation

Cambodia e-Arrival must be filed separately from the eVisa within seven days before arrival. Use the same Austrian passport, same spelling, same nationality, first Cambodian address and final Cambodian entry route. Save the QR confirmation offline and print it.

Do not complete e-Arrival so early that the system will not accept the date. If flights change after submission, follow the official correction process rather than creating an inconsistent identity record.

At departure and arrival, keep the passport, eVisa, e-Arrival QR, insurance, first address and onward travel together. Airline staff may check documents before the first flight from Austria or a nearby airport, especially where separate tickets are involved.

Austrian MFA registration and insurance

The Austrian Foreign Ministry provides travel information, traveller registration and the Auslandsservice app. Registration can help Austrian representations contact travellers or provide assistance more efficiently during a crisis or disaster. It is separate from Cambodian visa approval and does not replace e-Arrival.

Insurance should match the actual Cambodia plan. Check cover for medical treatment, repatriation, hospital deposits, scooters, motorcycles, diving, trekking, theft, cancellation, missed connections and pre-existing conditions. A travel warning, excluded activity or missing licence can affect claims even when the visa is valid.

Store Austrian consular contacts, insurer numbers, passport scan, eVisa approval and e-Arrival QR in offline and printed form. Do not leave the only passport copy in a checked bag or on a single phone.

Families, passport loss and overstay

Austrian families should not copy one adult's information into every application. Children may have different passport validity, surnames or consent requirements. Minors travelling with one parent, relatives, a school or a sports group should carry documents required by Austria, transit countries and airlines.

If an Austrian passport is lost in Cambodia, contact local authorities where necessary, Austrian consular assistance and Cambodian immigration. A replacement travel document may still require immigration clearance before leaving Cambodia. Copies of the lost passport, visa and e-Arrival can speed identification.

Overstay should be prevented, not negotiated at the airport. Check the entry stamp or electronic permission after admission and leave or regularise before the one-month tourist stay ends. The three-month entry validity no longer extends anything once the single entry is used.

Mistakes to avoid

• Selecting Australia instead of Austria in a nationality field.

Air, land and side-trip choices

Flying into Cambodia is often simpler for Austrian travellers because the final segment usually identifies the airport code clearly. KTI is the Phnom Penh-area airport code used in this guide, SAI covers the Angkor gateway, and KOS covers the Sihanoukville airport entry. Keep the final Cambodian boarding pass with the visa file.

Land entry requires a precise checkpoint name. Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal are the listed land options here. Do not rely on a route marketed only as "Thailand to Cambodia" or "Bangkok to Angkor" because that wording may hide a closed eVisa point. Ask the operator for the actual border post.

Regional side trips need single-entry planning. If an Austrian traveller enters Cambodia, leaves for Vietnam, Laos or Thailand, and then wants to return to Cambodia, the original Type T has already been used. Arrange the second entry lawfully before leaving the first time.

Practical departure audit

Seventy-two hours before leaving Austria or a nearby airport, compare the physical passport, eVisa PDF, e-Arrival QR, airline booking, first hotel address and insurance certificate. The nationality should say Austria, the passport number should match exactly, and the arrival port should be one currently accepting eVisa.

Check passport condition as well as dates. Water damage, torn pages, unreadable numbers or a loose biodata page can become a check-in or immigration problem. If the document is questionable, ask the passport authority or airline before travel rather than hoping the issue will be ignored in Cambodia.

Put printed documents in cabin baggage and keep digital copies offline. Family members should know where their own files are stored, even if one person completed every application.

Nearby-airport complications

Some Austrians start the journey outside Austria because Munich, Bratislava, Prague or Zurich offers a better fare. That can be sensible, but it adds another layer to document control. The airline at the first airport may be applying its own boarding checks, and a rail or bus connection to that airport can make same-day corrections difficult.

Carry the Cambodian file before crossing the first border in Europe. If a booking agent abbreviated a name or selected the wrong nationality, discover it at home rather than at a foreign check-in desk. Keep the route note clear enough to show that Bangkok, Doha or Istanbul is only a connection and Cambodia is entered at the named Cambodian port.

For winter departures, allow margin for rail disruption, snow delays and missed onward flights. A visa remains tied to its validity period, but the arrival declaration and hotel evidence may need attention if a delay pushes entry to another date.

Document control for families

Austrian family applications are easiest when each passport has its own mini file: passport page, portrait, approval, arrival QR, insurance and first address. Do not assume the children share the same surname sequence or passport validity as the parents. A spreadsheet can help, but every final value should still be read from the passport.

Where a minor travels with one parent or another adult, check consent expectations for Austria, the airline and each transit point. Cambodian visa approval does not settle custody, departure permission or carrier-document questions. Keep the consent record near the passport rather than buried in checked baggage.

If one traveller renews a passport after the others have been approved, isolate that case. The new passport number needs its own document review, and the airline booking may need updating before check-in.

Form review for Austria

The final review should include the nationality dropdown, passport country, place of issue, name fields and route fields. Austria should appear wherever nationality is requested. Australia should not appear unless the traveller genuinely also uses an Australian document for a separate part of the journey.

Read the approval PDF aloud against the passport if necessary. This slow check catches transposed passport digits, missing middle names, unwanted titles and wrong-country autofill.
