Belgian traveller decision table
| Decision point | Practical answer |
|---|---|
| Visa-free holiday? | No for ordinary Belgian passport holders |
| Online tourist route | Tourist eVisa Type T |
| Tourist Visa Service Fee | USD 90 |
| Business Visa Service Fee | USD 105 |
| Usual processing | Three business days |
| Validity for first entry | Three months after issue |
| Stay after admission | One month, single entry |
| Separate arrival filing | e-Arrival within seven days before arrival |
| Listed eVisa entries | KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet, Tropaeng Kreal |
| Not currently available for eVisa entry | Poipet and Cham Yeam, temporarily closed |
The three dates are often confused. Processing time is the review period. Validity is the period in which the approval can be used to enter. Stay length is the time allowed after Cambodian immigration admits the traveller.
What the Type T eVisa is designed to cover
Type T is a tourism document. It fits a Belgian holiday to Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Angkor, Kampot, Kep, Battambang, Koh Rong or a short regional itinerary where Cambodia is entered once. It is also useful when the traveller wants a decision before boarding rather than handling visa paperwork after a long connection.
It is not a flexible permission for any activity that happens during a trip. Employment, paid services, journalism, academic placement, long volunteering, regular business operations or Cambodian residence planning should be checked against the correct visa category. A tourist eVisa cannot make an unsuitable purpose lawful.
Belgian nationals with Cambodian family history should not assume Type T is always the best answer. Where Cambodian nationality, a K visa or another status may be relevant, ask Cambodian authorities or the embassy before paying for a tourist application.
Belgian identity details that need care
Belgium has French, Dutch and German official-language traditions, and passports may show names that travel forms handle unevenly. Use the ordinary Belgian passport exactly. Do not translate Bruxelles to Brussels inside the name fields, do not modernise accents, and do not replace a legal spelling with the version used at work or school.
Compound names need a slow review. Double surnames, hyphenated names, particles, multiple given names and family names containing spaces should follow the passport display and, where helpful, the machine-readable zone. If a form removes accents or limits punctuation, keep a copy of the submitted spelling so the visa, e-Arrival and airline booking can be compared.
A Belgian identity card is not a substitute for the passport in Cambodia visa processing. The passport number, expiry date and nationality on the eVisa must be the same document used at check-in, arrival and departure.
Documents to prepare before opening the form
- Ordinary Belgian passport with sufficient validity for Cambodia.
- Clear colour image of the full biographical page.
- Recent passport-style portrait showing the current face.
- Reliable email account for confirmation and follow-up.
- Payment card that can handle a USD online charge.
- Expected Cambodian arrival date and exact entry point.
- First accommodation address and contact details.
- Return or onward travel plan.
- Travel insurance and emergency assistance contact.
Read the passport before typing. The most costly errors are not complex legal issues; they are wrong digits, cropped scans, old passports and inconsistent name order. Replace any image with glare across the passport number, cut-off machine-readable lines or compression that makes small print difficult to read.
Workflow from Belgium to approval
- Choose the visa route. Confirm the trip is tourism and that Type T matches the purpose.
- Check passport condition. Review expiry, damage, missing pages and the exact identity spelling.
- Map the Cambodian entry. Select the airport or land checkpoint where immigration will actually occur.
- Enter data from the passport. Use legal names, date of birth, passport number and nationality exactly.
- Upload usable images. Inspect focus, corners, colour, orientation and portrait recency.
- Review fees before payment. Our Tourist Visa application service fee is USD 90.
- Save records. Keep the reference number, receipt, application summary and emails.
- Read the approval PDF. Compare it against the passport and itinerary immediately.
- Complete e-Arrival later. Submit the separate Cambodian arrival declaration inside the seven-day window.
- Build a border folder. Carry offline visa, e-Arrival QR, insurance, first address and onward ticket.
Payment does not guarantee approval, and approval does not guarantee admission. Cambodian authorities decide the application and border officers decide entry.
Timing: Brussels connections and the three-month window
Normal processing is three business days. Apply with more breathing room than the minimum because Cambodian public holidays, Belgian holiday peaks, bank authentication, photo corrections and time-zone differences can slow a simple case. A practical application window is early enough to fix a problem but not so early that validity expires before landing.
Count from the expected Cambodian arrival, not the departure from Brussels, Charleroi, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt. Many Belgian travellers connect through Bangkok, Singapore, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Ho Chi Minh City or Seoul. Overnight flights can shift the date by one calendar day.
The three-month validity period is for entry only. It does not allow three months in Cambodia. Once admitted, the Type T stay is one month, single entry, unless Cambodian authorities grant a lawful extension under current rules.
Payment from a EUR card
The Cambodian Tourist visa service fee for Tourist eVisa Type T is USD 90. A Belgian debit or credit card commonly settles the transaction in euros. The bank statement can show a different EUR amount because of card-network conversion, exchange movement or foreign transaction charges.
Some travellers use private assistance for form checking, image review or communication support. That private fee should be disclosed separately from the Tourist visa service fee. No private operator can buy approval, shorten official review by promise, or change a Cambodian officer's decision at the border.
Before entering passport data, confirm the legal operator, total price, refund terms and privacy handling. Be careful with pages that describe a higher total as the Cambodian Tourist visa service fee when the Tourist visa service fee is USD 90.
Accepted ports and route design
The official eVisa portal currently lists Techo International Airport, code KTI; Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, code SAI; and Sihanoukville International Airport, code KOS. It also lists Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal for land entry. Poipet and Cham Yeam are unavailable for eVisa use until further notice.
Belgian travellers often build a wider Indochina route. A bus ticket saying Bangkok to Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh or Laos to Cambodia is not enough for visa planning. The checkpoint name must match an eVisa-accepting port at the time of travel.
When a route depends on a land border, refresh the Cambodian port list shortly before departure and compare it with Belgian advice on regional disruption. For time-sensitive journeys, hold a realistic plan that switches to KTI, SAI or KOS.
e-Arrival is separate from the visa
Cambodia e-Arrival is a separate digital declaration for passport, trip, accommodation, customs and health information. Complete it within seven days before arrival. It is not the same as the eVisa approval and should not be left until the airline desk if avoidable.
Use the Belgian passport number and identity sequence already used for the visa. Download the QR image, keep it in the phone gallery, and carry paper. Long flights make airport Wi-Fi, roaming setup and battery life poor single points of failure.
Each traveller needs their own information. Children, spouses and group members should not be assumed to sit under one adult record. Review the arrival date again if the connection changes.
Belgian official preparation: registration and insurance
FPS Foreign Affairs provides Cambodia travel advice and regional consular information through the Belgian embassy network. Belgian travellers can register a trip through Travellers Online so Foreign Affairs has contact details during a crisis or serious incident abroad.
Belgian consular guidance also points travellers first toward practical support: family, friends, employer, tour operator, insurer, mutuality, bank and local emergency services. That order matters. Consular staff cannot replace normal travel insurance, pay private medical bills, undo airline rules or exempt a traveller from Cambodian immigration law.
Arrange insurance that covers Cambodia, hospital treatment, evacuation and repatriation. Read the policy wording for scooter use, underwater activities, hiking, alcohol exclusions, existing medical conditions and trips made despite official warnings. Carry the assistance number offline.
Family travel and children
Every child using a Belgian passport needs an individual visa where required and an individual e-Arrival submission. Children's passports can expire sooner than adult documents, so check each expiry date and do not copy a parent's number or photograph by mistake.
When a minor travels with one parent, grandparents, a youth organisation or another accompanying adult, carry relationship and consent evidence suited to the family situation. Belgian compound surnames, blended-family names and different parental names are easier to explain when birth records or custody documents are available.
Keep children's passport images and consent records secure. Upload them only through official systems or a provider you intentionally selected, and remove unnecessary copies from shared devices after travel.
Arrival, extension choices and overstay risk
At the checkpoint, present the Belgian passport, eVisa approval, e-Arrival QR, first accommodation and onward plan if asked. The officer controls admission. Before leaving the counter, inspect the entry notation and calculate the last permitted day from the official record.
If plans change, seek extension guidance before the authorised stay expires. Tourist Type T is single entry and one month; leaving Cambodia normally uses the entry. Returning later in the same regional trip generally requires fresh permission unless another valid status applies.
Do not treat overstay as a paid convenience. Overstay can bring fines and wider immigration consequences. Leave margin for illness, cancelled boats, changed bus routes, flight disruption or lost documents.
Passport loss or replacement in Cambodia
If a Belgian passport is lost or stolen in Cambodia, make a local report and contact Belgian consular assistance. A new emergency or temporary travel document does not automatically restore the Cambodian visa, entry record or departure permission.
Before leaving, ask Cambodian immigration which exit formalities, transfer notes or record corrections are necessary. A flight booked immediately after receiving a replacement document can fail if the local entry history remains unresolved.
If the passport changes after eVisa approval but before the trip, the approval and travel document may point to different numbers. Seek official instructions and expect that a fresh application may be required. Keep encrypted copies of the passport, approval, e-Arrival QR and insurance separately from the originals.
Common Belgian application mistakes
Typical preventable errors include using an identity card instead of a passport, typing a simplified name, dropping part of a compound surname, applying with a soon-to-be-renewed passport, uploading a cropped scan, selecting the transit airport as the Cambodian port, or assuming e-Arrival is included in the visa.
Route mistakes are common on overland travel. The present official position lists Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal, while Poipet and Cham Yeam remain unavailable for eVisa entry until further notice. Do not rely on old forum posts or a tour title that names only the nearest city.
Timing mistakes also cause trouble. Three business days, three months and one month describe different parts of the process. Put them into a calendar before paying.
Frequently asked questions for Belgian citizens
Do Belgian citizens need a Cambodia visa?
Yes. Ordinary Belgian passport holders need an appropriate visa. For many tourist visits, Cambodia Tourist eVisa Type T is the online route.
What is the Tourist visa service fee?
This application service lists USD 90. Euro conversion and disclosed private assistance fees are separate matters.
How long does approval normally take?
Normal processing is three business days. Apply with additional margin for weekends, holidays, payment checks and image corrections.
Does Type T allow multiple entries?
No. The Tourist visa service details are single entry, three months validity for entry and one month of stay after admission.
When should e-Arrival be completed?
Complete Cambodia e-Arrival within seven days before arrival. It is a separate declaration, not the visa itself.
Which ports currently accept eVisa entry?
The listed ports are KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are temporarily closed for eVisa entry.
How should Belgian French, Dutch or German names be typed?
Follow the passport spelling and order. Keep compound surnames and multiple given names consistent across visa, ticket and e-Arrival.
Should Belgians register their trip?
FPS Foreign Affairs offers Travellers Online registration so Belgian authorities can contact or support travellers more easily during a crisis.
What if my passport is lost in Cambodia?
Report it locally, contact Belgian consular assistance, and ask Cambodian immigration how to regularise the visa or entry record before departure.
Belgium-specific name and booking audit
Before payment, compare four places side by side: passport visual zone, machine-readable zone, airline reservation and eVisa draft. Belgian administrative names can carry accents, several given names, hyphenation or family-name particles that are shortened in everyday life. Immigration forms are not the place for a preferred short version.
If an airline booking was made from a loyalty profile, check it against the passport again. A traveller known publicly as Jan Peeters-Dupont, Marie Van den Broeck or Anne-Marie Muller may still have a longer legal sequence in the passport. The goal is not linguistic perfection; it is one consistent identity across systems that will be inspected by airline staff and Cambodian officers.
For German-speaking Belgian citizens, do not translate place names, citizenship labels or personal names into another language unless the passport itself uses that rendering. If a form cannot accept a diacritic, use the closest passport-machine-readable spelling and keep a note of the limitation.
Regional itinerary examples from Belgium
A Brussels to Siem Reap itinerary through Bangkok may still be an airport entry at SAI if the final flight lands there. A Brussels to Phnom Penh itinerary through Singapore or Doha may be KTI. A Vietnam-to-Cambodia bus route may be Bavet, but only the operator's exact checkpoint name confirms that.
Belgian residents sometimes depart from Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf or Luxembourg. Departure airport does not change the Cambodia visa analysis for a Belgian citizen. It can, however, change transit rules, baggage collection, missed-connection remedies and the date used for e-Arrival.
For package tours, ask the organiser whether Cambodia is entered once or more than once. A single-entry visa works badly with a plan that crosses into Cambodia, exits to Thailand or Vietnam, and returns for another Cambodian segment. Put the route in order before buying the visa.
