Read the three-month validity rule carefully. It is the period for first use of the approval, not a three-month Cambodian stay. The date stamped or recorded by Cambodian immigration is the stay date that matters at the end of the visit.
Start with the Dutch passport
The passport ties together the eVisa, airline check, e-Arrival, hotel record and departure control. Use the document that will physically travel. A Dutch national identity card is not a substitute for Cambodia visa processing.
Check that the passport will remain valid for at least six months when entering Cambodia. Inspect the biographical page, laminate, machine-readable lines and photo page. Damage, peeling laminate, unreadable characters or a passport close to replacement can create practical risk even when the online form accepts the typed data.
If renewal is likely, renew before applying. An eVisa is normally connected to the passport number used in the application. A later passport replacement can leave the approval and the document out of sync.
Dutch names: prefixes and compound surnames
Many Netherlands passports contain surname elements that travel systems handle poorly. Prefixes such as van, van de, van der, de, den, ter and op het should be kept in the order shown by the passport. Do not delete a prefix because a booking site sorts it differently, and do not move it into a given-name field.
Compound surnames after marriage, hyphenated names, long birth names and several given names deserve extra attention. Compare the visual inspection zone with the machine-readable zone before payment. If the online form forces a limited format, keep a record of what you entered.
The name printed on the eVisa, e-Arrival record, airline booking, insurance certificate and first accommodation reservation should point to the same person. A small difference that feels normal in the Netherlands can look like a separate identity during a document check.
When Type T is the right choice
Type T is designed for tourism. It fits a single Cambodian leisure visit to Phnom Penh, Angkor, Siem Reap, Battambang, Kampot, Kep, the islands, the Mekong area or the coast. It can also suit a Southeast Asia holiday where Cambodia is entered once after travel from Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Brussels, Dusseldorf or another connection point.
Do not use a tourist visa to disguise another purpose. Paid work, field reporting, teaching, structured volunteering, a business placement, long consultancy, NGO duties or study may need a different Cambodian status. Remote work from a hotel is not automatically tourism merely because the traveller also visits attractions.
Build the application file
Prepare before opening the form. You will normally need the ordinary Netherlands passport, a clear colour image of the full biographical page, a recent passport-style portrait, a reliable email address, card payment access, a Cambodian arrival date, the intended port of entry and first accommodation details.
Photograph or scan the passport page so every edge is visible. Avoid glare across the passport number, shadows over the surname, cropped machine-readable lines and heavy compression. The portrait should show the current face plainly; filters, hats, dark glasses and old images can slow review.
Keep onward travel, insurance and emergency information in the same trip folder for airline questioning, border checks, hotel registration, illness, theft or a later extension enquiry.
Apply without creating avoidable mismatches
- Identify the travel purpose. Use Type T only when the visit is genuinely tourism.
- Inspect the passport first. Review expiry, condition, passport number, given names and surname prefixes.
- Choose the Cambodian checkpoint. Enter the point where immigration will occur, not the transit airport.
- Copy identity data slowly. Match dates, nationality, passport number and name order to the Dutch passport.
- Upload readable images. Replace any file with glare, cropped corners or illegible machine-readable lines.
- Review the fee line. Our Tourist Visa application service fee is USD 90.
- Save the transaction trail. Keep the reference, receipt, submitted summary and confirmation email.
- Check the approval PDF immediately. Compare it against the physical passport before booking a border transfer.
- Submit e-Arrival later. Complete that separate declaration within seven days before entry.
- Carry copies. Store the eVisa, QR record, insurance and first address offline.
If a typo appears after submission, ask the official service or your provider for the correct remedy before travel.
Timing for Netherlands departures
The official normal processing time for Cambodia Tourist eVisa Type T is three business days. Build in more time than that. Weekends, Cambodian public holidays, Dutch school-holiday demand, portrait corrections, payment authentication and time-zone differences can add friction.
Do not apply so early that the approval expires before the Cambodian arrival. Count the three-month entry-validity period from issue, then compare it with the date you expect to meet Cambodian immigration. A Schiphol departure may arrive the following day after transit through the Gulf, Turkey, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan or Vietnam.
Families should allow extra review time. Each passport has its own number, expiry date, photograph and e-Arrival record.
Paying from a euro account
The Tourist visa service fee for Type T is USD 90. Dutch cards usually settle from a euro account, so the statement may show a converted EUR amount. Exchange-rate movement, card-network conversion and a bank margin can change the euro total without changing the Cambodian Tourist visa service fee.
Use a card that can complete 3-D Secure or bank-app authentication while you are abroad or close to departure. Failed authentication can look like a visa-site problem even when the issue is the Dutch card issuer.
Private assistance sites may charge more than the Tourist visa service fee for checking images, forms or customer support. That service charge must be presented as a separate private cost. No intermediary can guarantee approval, change Cambodian rules or make an unsuitable tourist application valid.
Airports, land borders and route design
The official Cambodian eVisa portal currently lists Techo International Airport, identified by KTI, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, identified by SAI, and Sihanoukville International Airport, identified by KOS. For land entry, it currently lists Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are marked temporarily closed for eVisa entry until further notice.
That distinction matters for Dutch travellers who combine Cambodia with Thailand, Vietnam or Laos. A tour description may say only Bangkok to Siem Reap or Vietnam to Phnom Penh, while the visa question requires the actual checkpoint. Ask the operator for the official border name.
If the overland answer is uncertain, keep an air-entry alternative. Border arrangements can change, and Netherlands official travel advice should be checked again close to departure with Cambodian portal information.
e-Arrival and accommodation records
Cambodia e-Arrival is not the eVisa. It is a separate digital arrival process covering passport, travel, accommodation, customs and health information, and it should be completed within seven days before arrival. Use the same passport number, nationality and name format that appear on the Dutch passport and eVisa approval.
Save the QR record offline and print it if possible. Long-haul arrivals are not the best moment to depend on airport Wi-Fi, roaming setup or a low phone battery. Children need their own records.
Foreigners Present in Cambodia System registration, often referred to as FPCS, relates to where foreign nationals are staying in Cambodia. Hotels commonly handle presence registration, but private homes, informal rentals, long stays with friends and extension plans may require the host to pay closer attention.
Passport collateral and everyday risks
Do not leave the original passport as collateral with a bicycle shop, scooter rental desk, hotel, tour counter or equipment provider. The passport is needed for immigration, police reporting, accommodation procedures, consular help and departure. Offer a copy, cash deposit or another arrangement instead.
Dutch visitors may be comfortable cycling or renting scooters, but Cambodian road conditions, traffic behaviour, helmet enforcement, licensing expectations and insurance exclusions differ from the Netherlands. Read the policy before riding anything with an engine.
If a business keeps a passport and a payment dispute follows, recovering the document can take time. With Type T allowing one month after entry, losing several days can become more than an inconvenience.
Common Netherlands routes
Most Dutch-origin itineraries reach Cambodia through another country. Typical connections include Singapore, Bangkok, Doha, Istanbul, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City. The eVisa application should name the Cambodian immigration point: KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet or Tropaeng Kreal when those match the actual plan.
Travellers sometimes start from Brussels, Charleroi, Cologne, Dusseldorf or Frankfurt to save money. That does not change nationality handling. The passport remains Dutch, and Netherlands Worldwide advice remains relevant alongside transit-country requirements.
Single entry needs careful planning on multi-country trips. If you enter Cambodia, continue to Vietnam or Thailand, and then return to Cambodia, the first Type T approval has normally already been used.
Insurance, money and disruption planning
Choose travel insurance that covers Cambodia, emergency treatment, hospital admission, evacuation and repatriation. Check exclusions for motorcycles, cycling events, diving, trekking, alcohol-related incidents, pre-existing conditions and travel against official advice.
A self-transfer can create separate risks. If baggage must be collected in Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City or another transit point, you may need to satisfy that country's entry or transit rules. A Cambodian eVisa does not solve requirements imposed by intermediate countries or airlines.
Carry more than one payment method and leave copies of passport, eVisa, insurance, tickets and first accommodation with a trusted contact.
Children, consent and family records
Every child travelling on a Dutch passport needs an individual visa process and an individual e-Arrival submission. Do not reuse a parent's passport number, portrait or uploaded file. Children's passports often expire sooner than adult passports, so check the six-month validity rule.
When a minor travels with one parent, relatives, a school group or another adult, carry suitable consent and relationship evidence for airline, transit and border questions. Different surnames, blended-family names and Dutch prefixes are easier to explain with official documents.
Store children's scans carefully. Use official portals or a trusted provider, and remove spare copies from shared devices after the trip.
Arrival, stay control and extensions
At the Cambodian checkpoint, be ready to present the Netherlands passport, printed eVisa, e-Arrival QR, first address, onward itinerary and insurance details if asked. Cambodian immigration makes the final admission decision. Before leaving the counter, check the entry record and calculate the final permitted day.
Tourist Type T normally gives one entry and a one-month stay. If more time is needed, seek authorised extension guidance before expiry. FPCS accommodation registration can matter when a stay is extended.
Do not treat overstay as a scheduling option. Fines and wider immigration consequences can apply, and a long overstay can become serious. Keep a departure buffer for illness, storms, cancelled buses, flight delays or a passport problem.
If the passport is lost or replaced
If a Dutch passport is lost or stolen in Cambodia, make a local report and contact Netherlands consular assistance. A replacement travel document does not automatically recreate the Cambodian visa or entry record. Ask Cambodian immigration what must be done before departure.
If the passport changes after the eVisa is issued but before travel, the approval may no longer match the travel document. Seek official instructions and expect that a new application may be necessary.
Encrypted copies of the passport, eVisa approval, e-Arrival QR, insurance and entry record are useful during reporting and consular work. They do not replace the original passport for normal travel.
Mistakes worth preventing
Many Netherlands-passport problems are transcription failures: a missing van or de, a transposed passport number, an old passport scan, a cropped machine-readable line, or a ticket booked under a shortened everyday name. Review identity data after a break.
Route mistakes are also common. Poipet and Cham Yeam are currently marked temporarily closed for eVisa entry, while Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal are listed. If a trip depends on a land border, verify the checkpoint rather than relying on a city name.
Timing mistakes follow the same pattern. Three business days is normal processing, three months is the entry-validity window, and one month is the usual stay after entry. e-Arrival belongs in the final seven-day period before arrival.
Final week before travelling
During the final seven days, complete Cambodia e-Arrival and compare it with the eVisa, passport and first hotel record. Names with prefixes should remain in passport order. Nationality, date of birth, passport number, arrival date and entry point should match the itinerary.
Before leaving the Netherlands or a nearby departure airport, download the approval PDF, QR record, insurance certificate and first accommodation address. Print the visa and QR because paper can make airline checks faster.
If the Cambodian arrival airport or land crossing changes, repeat the visa-port review.
Frequently asked questions
Do Dutch citizens need a visa to visit Cambodia?
Yes. Ordinary Netherlands passport holders need the correct Cambodian visa before or at entry, depending on the chosen route. Many tourists use the online Type T eVisa.
What does Cambodia charge for Tourist eVisa Type T?
This application service lists the Tourist visa service fee as USD 90. Card conversion into euros and any disclosed private service fee are separate.
How fast is the normal eVisa process?
Normal processing is listed as three business days. Apply with practical margin for weekends, holidays, image corrections and payment issues.
How should Dutch surname prefixes be written?
Use the order and spelling shown in the passport. Keep prefixes such as van, van der, de or ter consistent across the visa, e-Arrival, ticket and accommodation.
Does the three-month validity mean a three-month stay?
No. It is the window for entering Cambodia with the approval. Type T is single entry and normally allows one month after admission.
When should e-Arrival be submitted?
Submit Cambodia e-Arrival within seven days before arrival. It is separate from the visa and produces its own QR record.
Can I use an eVisa at Poipet or Cham Yeam?
The official portal currently marks Poipet and Cham Yeam temporarily closed for eVisa entry. Check again before relying on any land route.
Is it acceptable to hand over my passport as a rental deposit?
Avoid it. Keep the original passport secure and offer a copy, cash deposit or another arrangement for bicycle, scooter, hotel or equipment rental.
What should I do if my Netherlands passport is lost in Cambodia?
Report the loss locally, contact Netherlands consular assistance and ask Cambodian immigration how to regularise the visa or entry record before departure.
