Key facts for travellers from Germany
| Planning question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Visa required? | Yes |
| Common tourist route | Tourist eVisa Type T |
| Tourist Visa Service Fee | USD 90 |
| Business Visa Service Fee | USD 105 |
| Normal processing | Three business days |
| German planning recommendation | Apply at least two weeks before travel |
| Entry validity | Three months from issue |
| Stay | Up to one month, single entry |
| e-Arrival | Separate registration within seven days before entry |
The three-month period is the deadline for using the visa to enter, not a three-month residence permit. The border officer's entry notation determines the permitted stay.
Which German travel documents are accepted?
The German Foreign Office currently lists the regular Reisepass, vorläufiger Reisepass and Kinderreisepass as possible entry documents, while Personalausweis and vorläufiger Personalausweis are not accepted for entry. A traveller should still confirm eVisa compatibility for a temporary or unusual passport before applying online.
Travel documents must remain valid for at least six months at entry. Missing pages, serious damage or inconsistent identity can lead to refusal. Replace a questionable passport before paying for a visa because an approval connected to the old number may not transfer to the replacement.
German-Cambodian dual nationals and travellers with Cambodian parentage should ask a Cambodian mission which passport and visa status applies. The online tourist route is not necessarily the best solution for every nationality situation.
When Tourist Type T is appropriate
Type T fits a short leisure journey to Angkor, Phnom Penh, Battambang, the Mekong region, Kampot or the coast. It is convenient for a planned holiday because approval can be checked before a long flight from Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf or another European airport.
Tourist status does not authorize employment. Paid activity, regular remote services, teaching, formal volunteering, NGO placement, long-term study or business operations can require another category and a work permit. A short duration does not automatically convert work into tourism.
German Foreign Office guidance distinguishes tourism and business eVisa categories and notes that NGO workers and certain programmes may need B or C categories before entry. Describe the actual purpose and obtain advice instead of selecting the easiest form.
Documents to prepare
- Accepted German passport valid at least six months from arrival.
- Complete, undamaged biographical page in a clear colour image.
- Recent front-facing portrait on a plain background.
- Email account available during application and travel.
- Accepted debit or credit card with international payment enabled.
- Exact Cambodian entry port, arrival date and accommodation.
- Onward itinerary, insurance and emergency-contact information.
Follow the passport for spelling and name order. German names can include umlauts, ß, multiple given names, hyphens and particles. Use the form's instructions and passport machine-readable representation where a field cannot accept a character. Do not invent an English spelling from an airline profile.
Photograph all edges of the identity page and preserve the machine-readable lines. Check glare over the passport number and date fields. Reopen the final portrait and passport files after upload because automatic compression can make an apparently sharp image unreadable.
Application steps from Germany
- Confirm the travel purpose. Use Type T only for genuine tourism.
- Inspect the document. Check type, condition and six-month validity.
- Map the entry route. Select an airport or checkpoint that currently accepts eVisa.
- Transcribe identity exactly. Match the passport rather than a booking account.
- Upload clean images. Verify focus, edges, orientation and current appearance.
- Review the amount. Identify the USD 90 Tourist visa service fee and any optional private service.
- Submit once. Save the reference, receipt and application summary.
- Check the approval. Compare every field with the physical passport.
- Complete e-Arrival. Register separately within seven days before entry.
- Prepare copies. Print documents and keep offline versions in cabin baggage.
Payment and submission do not guarantee approval or admission. Only Cambodian authorities decide. If a case remains pending, use the genuine reference rather than opening several applications with slightly different information.
Why the two-week planning buffer matters
This application service lists three business days for normal processing, but the German Foreign Office advises applying at least two weeks before travel. The larger interval allows for image correction, card problems, weekends, Cambodian public holidays and communication across time zones.
Count backward from Cambodian arrival after connections, not departure from Germany. An overnight flight can cross dates. Enter the date printed for landing and use the same date in e-Arrival and accommodation planning.
Do not apply excessively early. The entry window is three months from issue. A balanced submission date protects both validity and problem-solving time. Do not make a non-refundable itinerary depend on unofficial “instant approval” advertising.
Fees, euro conversion and private support
Our Tourist Visa application service fee is USD 90. A German bank converts the charge to euros and may add a foreign transaction fee. The final EUR amount can differ from a public exchange-rate calculation.
Private assistance may carry a separate charge for form support, image review or communication. It must be clearly identified and cannot purchase influence over immigration. Review the operator's identity, total price, privacy policy and refund terms before sending passport data.
Our Tourist Visa application service fee is USD 90. A legitimate larger total must transparently explain additional services. Payment is not a guarantee of approval.
Accepted airports and land borders
The official eVisa portal currently lists Techo International Airport (KTI), Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) and Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS). It lists Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal for land entry. Poipet and Cham Yeam are marked temporarily closed for eVisa entry.
German itineraries often connect through Bangkok, Singapore, Doha, Istanbul, Seoul or Ho Chi Minh City. The connection is not the Cambodian port. Use the final segment's code and note that current Phnom Penh service uses KTI.
Border operations and security can change. Obtain the exact checkpoint name from an overland operator and check Cambodian and German official advice shortly before travel. A visa issued for a journey does not force a closed crossing to open.
Cambodia e-Arrival explained
Travellers register using Cambodia e-Arrival no earlier than seven days before planned entry. It replaces older paper arrival declarations and gathers passport, accommodation, customs and health information. Save the individual QR record.
Use the same German passport and identity spelling as the visa. Keep the QR offline and in print. Each traveller, including a child, requires the appropriate individual record.
e-Arrival is not eVisa and does not replace the paid visa. Conversely, visa approval does not complete the arrival declaration. Treat them as separate checkpoints in the travel checklist.
FPCS accommodation registration
The Foreigners Present in Cambodia System records where foreign visitors stay. German guidance says foreigners should be registered and notes that registration is relevant even for tourism. Hotels usually handle it, but travellers should confirm rather than assume.
People staying in a private home, rented property or with friends may need help from the host or may need to self-register under current rules. Without FPCS registration, a visa extension can be unavailable. Keep accommodation data accurate and retain confirmation where provided.
FPCS, e-Arrival and eVisa are three separate systems: presence registration, arrival declaration and visa permission. Completing one does not silently complete the others.
Siem Reap overnight planning
The German Foreign Office reports that visitors to the Angkor complex in Siem Reap are expected to stay at least one night in Cambodia and that a day trip from a third country is not possible under the stated immigration information. Travellers should not design a same-day international border run around Angkor.
Book legitimate accommodation and enter its address in arrival records. A rushed day trip can also conflict with checkpoint hours, border closures and the single-entry nature of Type T. A normal overnight itinerary offers more realistic time for immigration and transport.
Flights, transit and Schengen-area departure
Keep the passport, printed eVisa, e-Arrival QR, accommodation, onward ticket and insurance in cabin baggage. Airline staff may inspect documents before boarding in Germany and at a connecting airport.
Cambodian approval does not satisfy transit rules in another country. Self-transfer, baggage collection or terminal changes may require immigration. Check rules for the German passport and exact ticket instead of relying on another traveller's experience.
Within Europe, a feeder flight or rail-and-fly segment can create a different first check-in point. Ensure passport data in the airline booking matches the visa and allow time for manual document review.
Families and children
Each child travelling on an individual passport needs individual visa and e-Arrival handling. Check the Kinderreisepass or current passport status and expiry carefully, and confirm online compatibility before submission.
Carry relationship and consent documents when a minor travels with one parent or another adult. Transit countries and airlines may ask for evidence beyond the Cambodian form. Different family surnames are easier to explain with birth and custody documents.
Review approvals one by one. Do not copy a parent's passport number into a child's record. Protect minors' passport scans and remove unnecessary copies from shared devices after travel.
Arrival, stay and extension
An approved eVisa permits travel to request entry; immigration retains final authority. Inspect the entry sticker or notation. It shows the permitted stay, which is normally up to one month and is distinct from three-month visa validity.
Anyone requiring more time should seek an authorised extension before expiry. German guidance notes that FPCS registration is important for extension. Tourist permission does not authorize work.
Do not plan an overstay. Fines, detention, deportation and re-entry consequences can follow. A transport cancellation does not automatically extend permission, so keep departure margin and contact immigration promptly in an emergency.
Lost or replaced German passport
Report theft or loss to local police and contact the German Embassy for passport assistance. A replacement document does not automatically reproduce the Cambodian visa or entry evidence. Obtain Cambodian immigration instructions for an exit visa or record transfer.
If the passport changes before departure, an eVisa containing the old number may no longer match. Ask whether a fresh application is required. Do not rely on carrying both documents without confirmation.
Keep encrypted copies of passport, approval, insurance and entry record. They assist reporting but do not replace originals. Never leave a passport as rental security.
Health insurance and practical resilience
Choose insurance that covers Cambodia, medical treatment, evacuation, existing conditions and planned activities. Check exclusions for motorcycles, trekking, diving and alcohol. Keep the assistance number available offline.
Carry more than one payment method and protect bank authentication. Do not process passport or card data on an open network. Printed documents remain valuable when a device fails.
Leave time before the permitted departure date. Illness, weather or regional transport disruption can turn a last-day flight into an immigration problem.

- Choosing Poipet without checking temporary closure.
- Assuming e-Arrival or FPCS is included in eVisa.
- Planning a same-day Angkor visit from another country.
- Using Type T for work.
- Paying an unexplained fee as government pricing.
Compare passport, application, approval, itinerary and QR record in one final review before leaving Germany.

German-language application support and official meaning
A translated explanation can help a German-speaking traveller understand the steps, but the submitted identity must still follow the passport and the legal meaning comes from Cambodian authorities. Automatic browser translation can alter dropdown labels, dates or warnings. Turn it off if the form behaves unexpectedly and review the original-language value before submission.
Do not translate a place of birth, authority name or personal name unless the form specifically requests it. When seeking support, describe which field is unclear and provide only the minimum personal information through a verified channel. Never post a passport scan in a public group for translation.
Multi-country travel through Vietnam, Laos or Thailand
The Cambodian Type T eVisa is single entry. A traveller who enters Cambodia, leaves for a neighbouring country and then returns cannot assume the used approval remains available. Plot every entry before applying and arrange the permission required for each crossing.
Every neighbouring state has independent visa and transit rules. Cambodian approval says nothing about admission to Vietnam, Laos or Thailand. Border security and checkpoint operations can also change separately from visa validity. Verify the precise border on both governments' current lists.
A tour description such as “Mekong route” is not a checkpoint name. Ask the operator where immigration occurs, whether eVisa is accepted and what alternative is offered if the crossing closes. Avoid booking the final Cambodian departure on the last permitted day.
Final 72-hour document audit
- Names, passport number and dates match on approval and passport.
- The selected Cambodian port remains open for eVisa.
- e-Arrival was completed within the allowed seven-day window.
- Accommodation will complete FPCS registration.
- Transit, baggage and onward-entry rules are satisfied.
- Printed and offline records are in hand luggage.
If a material mismatch appears, obtain instructions before boarding. An airline desk cannot rewrite an eVisa, and an immigration officer is not required to disregard incorrect identity data.
German final document and accommodation check
Before leaving Germany, compare the Reisepass with the approved eVisa, flight booking and e-Arrival line by line. Confirm the Latin identity, document number, KTI, SAI or KOS arrival code and permitted validity window. Where a temporary passport or unusual travel document is involved, retain the written guidance obtained from the competent Cambodian mission rather than depending on a verbal airline assumption.
Ask the hotel or private host how FPCS registration will be handled and keep the correct accommodation address available. Save every border document offline, print a backup and review transit requirements after any rebooking from Frankfurt, Munich or another European gateway.
