Cambodia eVisa for Italian Citizens: Requirements

The three-month window is not a three-month holiday. It is the period for first use of the approval. After admission, the border record and Type T conditions control departure timing.

Start with the passport name

Use the Italian passport biodata page as the master record. Cambodia, the airline and e-Arrival should see the same person: same passport number, nationality, date of birth, surname order and given-name treatment. The national identity card is not the travel document for this Cambodia visa plan.

Italian names can be awkward in foreign forms. A passport may show two or more given names, a compound surname, an apostrophe, or particles such as Di, De, Del, Della, Lo, La or D'. Do not replace a formal name with a short version used at home. If the passport says Gian Luca, Maria Teresa or Giuseppe Antonio, keep that legal presentation where the form allows it.

When an online field strips accents or punctuation, use a plain Latin rendering that still tracks the passport and the machine-readable zone. The key is consistency. A mismatch between the eVisa, e-Arrival, airline booking and insurance certificate can create avoidable questions during check-in from Rome, Milan, Venice, Bologna or Naples.

Where Type T fits and where it does not

Type T suits a short leisure visit: Angkor temples, Phnom Penh, Kampot, Battambang, Sihanoukville connections, family tourism, independent backpacking or a once-through regional itinerary. It is also useful because an Italian traveller can receive the approval before boarding a long Europe-Asia route.

Tourism status should not be stretched. Paid work, service delivery, reporting assignments, formal study, long commercial activity, structured volunteering or NGO duties may require a different Cambodian status. A trip of only a few days can still be the wrong category if the purpose is not tourism.

People with Cambodian nationality, Cambodian family documentation or a previous Cambodian passport history should ask the competent Cambodian authority which status is correct. The ordinary Italian passport route described here is for travellers using Italy as their passport nationality for a visitor trip.

Build the route before paying

Choose the Cambodian immigration point before submitting the application. The verified eVisa air entries are Techo International Airport (KTI), Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) and Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS). The listed land entries are Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are temporarily closed for eVisa entry.

Italian itineraries often mention famous hubs rather than the actual Cambodian checkpoint. A flight change in Bangkok is not a Poipet entry. A Vietnam-Cambodia bus is not automatically Bavet unless the operator uses that crossing. A beach trip via Sihanoukville should be checked against KOS, not just against the resort name.

Regional loops need special care because Type T is single entry. Italy to Siem Reap, then Vietnam, then back to Phnom Penh is not one continuous Cambodian stay. The second Cambodian arrival needs its own valid basis unless plans change to remain inside Cambodia.

Viaggiare Sicuri and transit checks

Viaggiare Sicuri should be reviewed before payment and again shortly before departure. Its Cambodia page is useful for country conditions, but Italian travellers should also consider the countries used for connections. A self-transfer in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Qatar, Turkiye or the United Arab Emirates can bring separate immigration, baggage and boarding rules.

A single ticket normally reduces transit friction, yet schedule changes can alter the arrangement. If luggage must be collected or terminals require landside movement, the connecting state may treat the stop differently from a normal airside connection. Cambodia eVisa approval does not answer those third-country questions.

Keep an itinerary sheet with local dates at each airport. A flight leaving Italy in the evening may reach Cambodia two calendar dates later. That Cambodian arrival date drives the seven-day e-Arrival window and should match the visa file.

Evidence to assemble

• Ordinary Italian passport with at least six months of remaining validity for entry planning.
• Sharp colour image of the passport biodata page, including the machine-readable lines.
• Recent passport-style portrait with the whole face visible.
• Email access for case messages, receipt and approval delivery.
• Card able to make an international online USD payment.
• Confirmed or credible first Cambodian address.
• Route showing the exact Cambodian entry point.
• Onward or return travel evidence.
• Insurance certificate with emergency contact details.

Damaged passports should be dealt with before applying. Water marks, loose lamination, torn pages or unreadable numbers can matter more at the airport than during a hurried online upload. If a new passport is issued after approval, the visa record tied to the old number may no longer support boarding.

Application sequence for Italy

1. Confirm tourism. Do not use Type T for work or a disguised business stay.
2. Read the passport aloud. Check every given name, surname, number and expiry date.
3. Pick the checkpoint. Match the application to KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet or Tropaeng Kreal when using eVisa.
4. Prepare image files. Reopen the scan and portrait after saving to catch blur, glare or cropped edges.
5. Enter contact and address data. Use details that will still make sense at arrival.
6. Pay the Tourist visa service fee. The Cambodian Tourist visa service fee is USD 90.
7. Save the case record. Keep the reference number, receipt and submitted spelling.
8. Audit the approval. Compare the PDF against the passport before travelling.
9. File e-Arrival later. Submit it during the seven-day pre-arrival window.
10. Carry a border set. Keep printed and offline copies together.

Payment is not the same as issuance. Cambodian authorities decide whether to grant the visa and whether the traveller is admitted. If a correction request arrives, answer through the proper case channel instead of creating conflicting duplicate files.

Timing around Italian departures

Routine processing is three business days, but a practical plan leaves extra room. Italian public holidays, Cambodian holidays, weekend departures, bank authentication problems and photo corrections can all slow a case. Applying one to two weeks before leaving Italy is often more comfortable than waiting for the final nights before a long-haul flight.

Applying too early can also be a mistake. Because the approval must be used within three months from issue, the safest anchor is the first Cambodian arrival date after all connections. Do not calculate from the Rome or Milan departure if the itinerary lands in Cambodia on the following day.

Families and tour groups should keep applications close together once every passport is ready. Widely separated issue dates can leave one traveller with a tighter entry window even when everyone is on the same booking.

USD fee, EUR statements and disclosure

Our Tourist Visa application service fee is USD 90. Italian bank cards normally settle the charge in EUR, and the final statement can include exchange spread or foreign transaction terms. A euro amount above a simple currency conversion does not automatically mean the official Cambodian fee has changed.

Private assistance, where chosen, should be shown separately from the Tourist visa service fee. Assistance may cover form review, image checks, reminders or support, but it cannot guarantee approval, override an officer or make an ineligible purpose fit Type T.

Before entering passport data on any non-government service, identify the operator, total payable amount, refund terms, privacy terms and what work is being purchased. This page is independent and is not operated by the Cambodian government or the Italian government.

e-Arrival as a separate task

Cambodia e-Arrival is not created by the visa application. It is a separate digital arrival declaration completed within seven days before entry. Use the same Italian passport, same spelling pattern, same intended port and a first accommodation address that matches the itinerary.

Save the QR confirmation somewhere usable without mobile data, and print it with the eVisa. Inbox search is a weak plan after a SIM change, a dead battery or a hotel Wi-Fi problem. Each adult and child needs an individual record connected to that passport.

If the final flight or land crossing changes after e-Arrival is filed, review the official arrival system instructions. The visa, QR, ticket and hotel record should tell a coherent story when presented together.

Insurance and money controls

Insurance is not a visa requirement substitute, but it is important for Italy-Cambodia travel. Look for medical care, hospitalisation, evacuation and repatriation coverage, then store the certificate and assistance phone number offline. Remote temple visits, islands, scooter use, diving and trekking can expose exclusions that are easy to miss.

Read the policy wording before relying on it. Some policies treat motorbike riding, alcohol-related incidents, pre-existing conditions or adventure activities differently. Families should also check interruption coverage because one illness can change flights for several people.

Carry more than one payment method. A card that paid the USD visa fee can still be blocked later for unusual overseas use. Enable international controls, keep bank authentication available, and separate a backup card from the main wallet.

Group travel and minors

Every Italian passport holder needs an individual visa approval and an individual e-Arrival record. Children are not covered by a parent's application. Scan each passport separately and name each file with the traveller's legal name plus passport number so family documents do not get mixed.

When a minor travels with one parent, relatives, a school group or another adult, carry relationship and consent evidence appropriate to the route. Different surnames within an Italian family are not unusual, but birth certificates, custody papers or consent letters can make airline or transit questions easier.

A mixed-nationality couple or group should not copy the Italian answer onto everyone. The shared hotel and flight booking can be identical while passport validity rules, transit permissions and visa eligibility differ.

Arrival, stay control and document loss

At the Cambodian border, keep the passport, printed eVisa, e-Arrival QR, first address, onward plan and insurance accessible. The approval permits the traveller to seek entry; the immigration officer still decides admission. Before leaving the counter, check the stamp or electronic record for the permitted stay.

Type T is single entry and the stay is one month. If more time is needed, seek authorised Cambodian instructions before expiry. The three-month use window, the USD 90 fee and an airline delay do not extend the admitted stay.

If the Italian passport is lost or stolen in Cambodia, report the incident where required and contact Italian consular assistance. A replacement travel document does not automatically recreate the Cambodian visa or entry record. Ask Cambodian immigration what departure formalities are needed before buying a new ticket.

Final review before boarding

During the last week, complete e-Arrival, recheck the eVisa port list, download the approval, verify the passport number and compare the first hotel address with the arrival declaration. If the airline changes the Cambodian airport or the route switches from air to land, review whether the new checkpoint accepts eVisa.

A Catania, Palermo, Bari, Cagliari or Florence connection can be the point where baggage rules, delayed boarding or a missed onward flight first affect the Cambodia arrival date. Recheck the whole chain after any domestic schedule change, even when the intercontinental ticket still looks untouched.

Frequent Italian errors

• Applying before renewing a passport that is too close to expiry.
• Dropping a middle given name because the airline account is shorter.
• Changing surname order between the visa and e-Arrival records.
• Using a nickname such as Vale, Ale, Pippo or Fra.
• Counting the e-Arrival window from departure from Italy instead of entry into Cambodia.
• Planning an eVisa entry at Poipet or Cham Yeam while those points are marked temporarily closed.
• Forgetting that a regional loop can require another Cambodian entry basis.
• Using a weak insurance policy for scooter, island or evacuation risk.
• Assuming Viaggiare Sicuri is only relevant after a crisis.

Most avoidable problems are ordinary reconciliation failures: one wrong digit, one missing name, one outdated port or one document saved only in a cloud mailbox.
