If the visit is leisure, the passport is an ordinary Portuguese passport, and the first Cambodian entry point is eVisa-compatible, Type T is normally the most predictable pre-departure document. If the traveller will work, provide services, study, volunteer formally, stay long term, use an emergency passport, or enter through a non-listed checkpoint, stop and confirm the correct route with official sources before applying.

The approval is single entry. A Portugal to Thailand to Cambodia to Vietnam itinerary may fit one Type T visa if Cambodia is entered once. A Portugal to Cambodia to Vietnam to Cambodia itinerary may not. The route order should be written down before hotels and flights become non-refundable.

Planning matrix

Visa validity, processing time and permitted stay are different deadlines. The safest review is to compare the certificate with the physical passport and the final Cambodian arrival segment.

Portuguese names and passport spelling

Portuguese passports may show several given names and multiple family names. Names can include particles such as de, da, das, do and dos, and accents such as á, â, ã, à, ç, é, ê, í, ó, ô, õ and ú. The visa application should follow the passport, not a shortened airline account, business card, hotel profile or social name.

When a form separates surname and given names, place the family-name elements in the surname field and given names in the given-name field. Do not silently drop a middle given name because it is not used in daily life. A mismatch can be noticed by airline staff before the traveller reaches Cambodia.

If the online system cannot accept accents or punctuation, use the unaccented version consistently across eVisa, e-Arrival, ticket and insurance. The machine readable zone offers an official international spelling reference. It should be used for consistency, while the full passport identity remains the authority.

Documents checklist before starting

Have the Portuguese passport, a clear passport data page image, a recent face photograph, intended Cambodian arrival date, first Cambodian port, accommodation address, email, phone number and international card ready. Keep travel insurance, onward ticket and the first hotel or host contact available for later checks.

Do not apply with a passport that is about to be replaced. The visa is linked to the passport number. If renewal is needed, finish the passport process first, update the airline booking if required, then use the new passport for the visa and e-Arrival. Carrying both old and new passports does not automatically cure an approval issued to the wrong document.

For families, prepare one record per traveller. A child's visa should be associated with the child's passport, not added casually to a parent application. Where only one parent travels, check official and airline requirements for consent or relationship evidence before departure from Portugal.

1. Confirm tourism. Make sure the planned activities fit Tourist Type T.
2. Build the Cambodia segment. Identify whether arrival is by KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet or Tropaeng Kreal.

4. Prepare files. Use clear originals with visible passport edges and a natural portrait.
5. Complete the form. Enter the Cambodian arrival date after Lisbon, Porto and transit flights.
6. Check the price. Look for the USD 90 Tourist visa service fee and any separately disclosed assistance fee.
7. Submit once. Keep the reference and allow the three business day review period.
8. Review approval. Confirm passport number, nationality, entry validity, one month stay and single-entry status.
9. File e-Arrival. Submit the separate declaration inside the seven day window before Cambodia.
10. Prepare boarding pack. Print the visa and QR record, and store offline copies.

The order matters because route and identity errors are the easiest mistakes to prevent. A correct application is faster to handle than a correction request created after payment.

Fees, euros and private assistance

Our Tourist Visa application service fee is USD 90. A Portuguese card in euros will be converted by the issuer or payment network, and additional foreign transaction fees may appear. The EUR amount on the statement is a banking result, not a separate Cambodian price.

Some travellers use a private service for image review, form checking or reminders. That service fee should be transparent, optional where applicable, and separated from the Tourist visa service fee. No private company can guarantee approval, guarantee admission, turn a tourist visa into work permission, or make a closed checkpoint available.

If a card payment is declined, check authentication and bank messages before trying again. Several fast attempts with slightly different spellings can create duplicate records. Keep receipts and confirmation pages until the journey is complete.

Lisbon, Porto and long-haul route planning

Portugal to Cambodia normally involves long-haul connections. Travellers may route from Lisbon or Porto through Istanbul, Doha, Dubai, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul or Ho Chi Minh City. The transit location does not determine the Cambodian port. Use the final Cambodian airport or land checkpoint.

Because the journey can cross midnight, calculate the Cambodian arrival date carefully. e-Arrival opens within seven days before entry, not seven days before leaving Portugal. A traveller departing Lisbon on Monday can reach Cambodia on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the route.

For regional holidays, confirm whether Cambodia is entered once or more than once. Tourist eVisa Type T is single entry. If a second Cambodian entry is planned after Vietnam, Laos or Thailand, obtain advice before assuming the first approval remains useful.

Ports and e-Arrival

The current eVisa entry list for planning includes Techo International Airport KTI, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport SAI, Sihanoukville International Airport KOS, Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are temporarily closed for eVisa entry. Check the official source before booking a land segment and again before travel.

Bus and private-transfer descriptions can be imprecise. "Bangkok to Siem Reap" may imply Poipet, which is not currently available for eVisa entry. "Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh" may involve Bavet, but the traveller should confirm the checkpoint with the operator. Do not rely on old forum posts or archived route pages.

Cambodia e-Arrival is completed separately within seven days before arrival. It should match the same Portuguese passport and travel details used for the visa. Save the confirmation as an offline file and a printed copy. The arrival declaration does not prove visa approval, and the visa does not prove declaration submission.

Portal das Comunidades, registration and insurance

Portuguese travellers should consult Portal das Comunidades and related official Portuguese government travel information before departure. Use traveller registration where available or recommended so Portuguese authorities have a channel for emergency contact. Registration is a consular preparation step, not a Cambodian immigration document.

Travel insurance should cover medical care, evacuation, missed connections, luggage, planned sports, motorcycle rental and regional travel. Read exclusions for alcohol, unlicensed driving, helmets, high-value electronics, remote areas and pre-existing conditions. Keep the insurer assistance number available without mobile data.

Consular assistance has limits. Portuguese officials can give information and support within their role, but they cannot force a Cambodian authority to approve entry, waive an overstay, replace an insurance policy, or require an airline to board a passenger with mismatched documents.

Loss, family changes and overstays

If a Portuguese passport is lost or stolen in Cambodia, report it as required, contact Portuguese consular services, preserve digital copies of the old passport and eVisa, and ask Cambodian immigration how the stay record must be corrected before exit. A replacement or emergency travel document can solve identity for travel, but the Cambodian entry record may still need attention.

Family travel can change quickly because of illness, school holidays or separate return dates. Since Type T is single entry, one family member leaving Cambodia and returning later may need separate planning. Children should have their own records and their documents should be stored where the accompanying adult can access them at check-in.

Overstay should be handled before it occurs. Read the entry record after arrival and set a reminder several days before expiry. If a flight cancellation, hospital stay or lost passport threatens the date, contact the proper Cambodian authority promptly and keep written evidence.

Long-haul examples from Portugal

A Lisbon to Doha to Phnom Penh itinerary should be checked against the Cambodian arrival airport, which may be KTI. A Porto to Istanbul to Siem Reap itinerary should be checked against SAI. In both examples, the transit hub is only a connection point. The eVisa and e-Arrival should describe the first Cambodian entry, not the place where the traveller changes aircraft.

A Lisbon to Bangkok flight followed by an overland transfer toward Siem Reap needs a separate border decision. If the crossing is Poipet, the route does not fit current eVisa entry because Poipet is closed. A Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh road leg may involve Bavet, but the traveller should confirm that checkpoint before relying on Type T. Written confirmation from the transport provider is useful, but official Cambodian port information remains the controlling source.

After approval and before e-Arrival

When the visa certificate arrives, inspect it immediately. Confirm every name element, passport number, nationality, issue validity, Type T category, one month stay and single-entry status. Portuguese names are long enough that truncation and missing particles should be taken seriously. If the certificate is wrong, seek correction through the proper channel before the travel day.

Then prepare for e-Arrival. Wait until the seven day window is open, use the same passport and route details, and save the confirmation where it can be opened without data roaming. If the airline changes the arrival date or airport, update the travel file and follow the official declaration system's current instructions. Do not create a different spelling merely to force a new submission.

Evidence at check-in and arrival

At departure from Lisbon, Porto or a connecting airport, airline staff may ask for a passport, Cambodian visa, onward journey and sometimes accommodation evidence. They are checking whether the passenger appears eligible to travel, not granting Cambodian admission. Keep the printed visa and e-Arrival with the passport, because a document stored in checked luggage is unavailable when it matters.

On arrival, read the immigration record before leaving the counter. The visa's three month validity has already served its purpose once entry is granted; the stay deadline is the date that matters next. Keep the vended or electronic entry evidence until departure. If the record is unclear, ask immediately rather than discovering a possible overstay near the end of the trip.

Final Portugal checklist

Within seventy-two hours of departure, compare the Portuguese passport, eVisa certificate, e-Arrival confirmation, airline booking and first accommodation record. The full name should be explainable from the passport, including particles and unaccented spellings where the system required them. The passport number should match exactly, and the Cambodian port should be one of the currently accepted eVisa locations.

Check that the trip still enters Cambodia only once. If a family member changed flights, returned to Portugal early, or added a side trip, review that person's visa position separately. Confirm travel insurance cover for the actual activities, including medical evacuation and any motorcycle or coastal plans. Save Portal das Comunidades registration or emergency contact details with the travel file.

For travellers using separate tickets from Lisbon or Porto, leave enough time for baggage collection and a new check-in. A missed connection can move the Cambodian arrival date and affect e-Arrival timing. When schedules change, update the document pack before reaching the airport counter.
