Which Russian passport to use

This guide is written for ordinary Russian international passports used for private tourism. It is not a guide for diplomatic passports, service passports, seafarer documents, refugee papers, emergency travel certificates, residence applications, employment, study or official missions. Those situations can have separate rules and should be checked through the competent Cambodian or Russian official channel before payment.

Many Russian citizens lawfully hold two valid international passports. That is useful for complicated travel, but the Cambodia file should still be built around one document. The passport number in the eVisa, the airline booking, the e-Arrival declaration and the passport shown at Cambodian immigration should match. Treat the second passport as a route or emergency asset only when its use does not confuse the Cambodian entry record.

If a passport will be renewed before departure, wait for the new passport before applying where possible. A visa approval attached to the old number can create a boarding problem even if the name and nationality are obvious to a human reader.

Cyrillic records and Latin passport identity

Russian domestic documents may show the traveller's name in Cyrillic, while the international passport provides the Latin-letter identity used by airlines and Cambodian systems. For Cambodia, the Latin fields printed in the international passport are the source of truth. Do not create a fresh transliteration from a domestic passport, birth certificate, banking profile, employer record or social-media spelling.

Small differences matter. Aleksandr, Alexander, Aleksei, Alexey, Iuliia, Yulia, Nataliia and Natalia may describe the same person in ordinary life, yet software may treat them as different strings. Copy surname, given names, passport number, nationality, birth date and expiry date slowly. Compare the visible passport page with the machine-readable lines after the form is filled.

Name changes need the same discipline. A traveller with marriage, divorce, patronymic usage, an older visa in a previous spelling or tickets booked through a saved airline profile should align the Cambodia application with the current international passport. Supporting records can explain history, but they should not replace the travel document in the form.

When Type T fits the trip

Tourist Type T fits a private visit for sightseeing, beaches, temples, food travel, photography, cultural touring, visiting friends without working, or a Cambodia segment inside a wider Asia itinerary. Russian travellers commonly use it for Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Angkor, Kampot, Kep, Battambang, Sihanoukville, islands or a short stop between Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia or Singapore.

It does not authorize employment, local paid services, teaching, journalism, formal volunteering that functions as labour, business operation, residence, study or a long stay that is really living in Cambodia. Payment from a foreign employer does not automatically make activity in Cambodia tourism. If the traveller will serve clients, work for a host, negotiate a job, perform for pay or stay beyond the tourist period, confirm the proper Cambodian status before leaving Russia or another departure country.

The eVisa lets a traveller request entry; it does not guarantee admission. Cambodian immigration officers decide the border outcome, and airline staff may check documents before boarding. Clear papers and a consistent story reduce preventable delays.

Build the document file

• Ordinary Russian international passport chosen for this Cambodia journey.
• Readable colour image of the entire biographical page, including machine-readable lines.
• Recent passport-style portrait with plain background and no filters.
• Actual Cambodian arrival date after all connections.
• First accommodation address and contact details in Cambodia.

• Offline copies of insurance, emergency contacts, consular details and booking records.

Use clean scans or photos, not compressed screenshots from messaging apps. Reopen every upload before submission. Glare across the number, cropped document edges, blurred expiry dates or hidden machine-readable lines can slow review or lead to a correction request.

Application order from a Russian starting point

1. Define the purpose. Use Type T only for tourism or a short private stay without work.
2. Select one passport. Choose the international passport that will appear in every Cambodia record.
3. Copy Latin identity. Type the passport spelling, number and dates exactly.
4. Set the Cambodian entry point. Pick KTI, SAI, KOS, Bavet or Tropaeng Kreal when using eVisa.
5. Prepare images. Upload a clear passport page and current portrait.
6. Review the price. Separate the USD 90 Tourist visa service fee from exchange costs or private assistance.
7. Submit once. Save the reference, receipt and confirmation emails.
8. Audit the approval. Compare the PDF with the passport, ticket and route.
9. File e-Arrival later. Complete the separate arrival declaration inside the seven-day window.
10. Travel with backups. Carry printed and offline digital copies in cabin baggage.

If a page loads slowly or a payment confirmation is delayed, check the inbox, spam folder, application status and bank record before starting again. Several applications with different spellings, dates or passport scans can create a harder problem than one pending case.

Payment and RUB budgeting

Payment access can vary by issuer, network, location, authentication method, device, merchant acceptance and account settings. This guide does not claim that any specific Russian-issued card will or will not work, and it does not make unsupported statements about sanctions outcomes. The practical point is simpler: do not make one online card the only way to pay for the visa, retrieve records, book onward transport or solve a disruption.

Before applying, prepare another lawful payment path if available, confirm banking-app access, keep some funds separate from the daily wallet and avoid last-minute submission. A failed online payment is much easier to handle a week before departure than at airport check-in with a non-refundable itinerary.

Routes that usually need extra checking

Russian-origin travel to Cambodia often passes through Istanbul, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Tashkent, Almaty, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Seoul, Beijing or another hub. The transit airport is not the Cambodian port. In the visa application, use the first Cambodian immigration point: KTI for Phnom Penh, SAI for Siem Reap, KOS for Sihanoukville airport, or the named land crossing if the trip enters by road.

For eVisa entry, the verified accepting points in this guide are Techo International Airport (KTI), Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS), Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are temporarily closed for eVisa entry. Older tour notes, forum posts or route screenshots may still mention those crossings, but they should not be used for current eVisa planning unless the official list changes.

Transit rules are separate. A self-transfer may require entering the transit country to collect baggage, change airports or check in again. A Cambodia visa does not satisfy requirements imposed by Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Gulf states, Turkey, China, Korea, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan or any airline in the route. Check each segment against the exact passport and ticket structure.

e-Arrival and offline planning

Cambodia e-Arrival should be submitted during the seven days before arrival. Use the same Russian international passport, the same Latin spelling, the actual arrival route and the first Cambodian accommodation details. Save the QR or confirmation where it works without roaming or cloud access, and print a backup with the visa PDF.

Every traveller needs individual handling. Couples, families and tour groups should verify each passport number, birth date and approval file. Children, relatives with similar names and people carrying two passports are especially easy to mix up when files are named generically.

Offline records are not cosmetic. Store the eVisa, e-Arrival record, passport copy, insurance, first hotel, onward ticket, emergency contacts and consular information on the phone and in a second place. A printed set in cabin baggage can be the fastest answer when airport Wi-Fi fails, a phone battery dies, an email account is locked or a transfer desk asks for proof before boarding.

Consular and emergency preparation

Russian citizens should keep contact details for Russian consular assistance and local emergency procedures before travelling. Consular officials may help with information, document replacement processes and communication within their authority, but they cannot force Cambodia to issue a visa, erase an overstay, pay a bill, reopen a border, override local law or require an airline to board a passenger.

If the passport is lost or stolen in Cambodia, report the incident through local procedures and contact Russian consular officials for replacement-document guidance. A new travel document does not automatically recreate the Cambodian visa or entry record attached to the lost passport number. Cambodian immigration may need to reconcile the entry before departure.

Keep police reports, passport copies, visa files, hotel records, payment receipts, insurance references and ticket records together. Those papers help reconstruct the case if the phone is gone, the email account is inaccessible or the traveller needs to prove how and when they entered Cambodia.

Families, groups and dual-national files

Each Russian traveller on an individual passport needs individual visa and e-Arrival handling. A child is not covered by a parent's approval. Check children's passport expiry dates, passport numbers and Latin spellings separately, then label each approval by traveller name and passport number to avoid presenting a sibling's PDF.

When a minor travels with one parent, relatives, a school group or another adult, carry relationship, consent or custody documents suitable for airline, transit and border questions. Cambodian visa approval does not replace departure, airline or transit-country document checks.

Dual nationals should decide which passport will carry the Cambodia file before applying. If a second nationality is used for a transit country, keep the sequence explainable: one document may support transit, while the Russian passport may carry the Cambodian visa, or the reverse may be true. What matters is that the Cambodian visa, e-Arrival and entry presentation point to the same passport.

Stay control, accommodation and departure

At arrival, present the passport, printed or offline eVisa, e-Arrival confirmation, accommodation address and onward plan if asked. Admission remains a Cambodian immigration decision. Read the permitted-until date before leaving the counter, because that date is the real boundary for departure or any authorized extension.

Accommodation records matter if plans change, a passport is lost or an extension question arises. Hotels and licensed accommodation providers may handle local foreigner reporting duties, while private hosts may need to give clearer address and contact information. Keep the first address accurate and save later bookings as the route changes.

Overstay is not a budgeting strategy. It can lead to fines, detention, deportation and future visa difficulty. Build a reserve of time and money before the final permitted day, especially if departure depends on a last-minute payment, one phone, one card, a regional bus, a ferry or a separate-ticket flight.

Mistakes to remove before departure

• Typing a self-made Latin transliteration instead of the international passport spelling.
• Applying with one valid Russian international passport and presenting another at check-in.
• Putting a transit city in the Cambodian port field.
• Planning eVisa entry through Poipet or Cham Yeam.
• Reading three months of validity as a three-month stay.
• Forgetting that e-Arrival is separate from the visa.
• Relying on one card, one phone and cloud-only document storage.
• Leaving no RUB or USD reserve for route changes or failed authentication.
• Assuming consular help can cancel Cambodian immigration consequences.
