Route-first checklist
Before applying, draw the trip as a chain of borders rather than a list of cities. A Madrid to Bangkok flight followed by a separate ticket to Phnom Penh is different from a Madrid to Ho Chi Minh City itinerary followed by road entry at Bavet. Cambodia checks the first Cambodian immigration point, not the Spanish airport of departure or the Asian airport used for transit.
For eVisa arrival by air, Cambodia presently names KTI at Techo International Airport, SAI at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and KOS at Sihanoukville International Airport. For eVisa arrival by land, the named crossings are Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. Poipet and Cham Yeam are not available for eVisa entry at present because they are temporarily closed for that use. That point matters for overland packages that still describe older Thailand-Cambodia crossings.
If the first Cambodian stop is Siem Reap, verify SAI. If the first Cambodian stop is Phnom Penh, verify KTI. If the tour crosses from Vietnam, confirm the exact checkpoint name. Recheck the official port list shortly before payment and again before travel.

Two surnames and passport identity
Apply with the same Spanish passport that will be used for every transport and immigration step. The passport biographical page is the controlling record. If it shows given names plus two surnames, treat both surnames as part of the legal travel identity rather than optional family history.
Do not shorten the identity to match a frequent-flyer profile, hotel nickname, work email, social name, national identity card habit or a one-surname pattern from another country. Catalan, Basque, Galician or accented forms should be handled by following the passport display and the form's technical limits. If a field cannot accept a character, keep the resulting Latin rendering consistent across the eVisa, ticket and e-Arrival.
Name changes after marriage, adoption, divorce or administrative correction should be resolved before applying. A visa linked to an old passport number or an old name may not be useful at check-in, even if the traveller can explain the history.
When Type T fits Spain-based travel
Tourist Type T is intended for a short non-working visit: Angkor temples, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Battambang, Kampot, Kep, Sihanoukville, islands, food travel, photography, visiting friends without work, or a Cambodia portion of a Southeast Asia trip. It is practical because the approval can be checked before leaving Spain.
It is not permission for employment, paid services, local business operation, journalism, formal research, long study, residence, or volunteering that functions as labour. A person carrying a Spanish passport but travelling for a client, employer, NGO or production assignment should confirm the proper Cambodian status rather than forcing the trip into a tourist category.
Special passports, emergency documents, dual nationality, Cambodian family origin and previous immigration problems can change the analysis. This guide covers ordinary Spanish tourist passports only.
Application rhythm from Spain
- Lock the purpose. Confirm that the visit is tourism or a short private stay.
- Read the passport. Check six-month validity, condition, number, given names and both surnames.
- Fix the route. Select the Cambodian entry point rather than the international transit hub.
- Create clean files. Use a full passport-page image and a current portrait.
- Enter data carefully. Copy passport identity into the form before making payment.
- Pay deliberately. Expect USD billing and EUR settlement through the card issuer.
- Retain evidence. Save reference number, receipt and submitted summary.
- Compare the approval. Check spelling, dates, nationality, passport number and port.
- Submit e-Arrival. File the separate Cambodian declaration within seven days before arrival.
If the approval email is delayed, check spam, payment status and official status tools before submitting another application. Duplicate records with different names or emails are harder to reconcile than one clean case.
EUR card payments and fee disclosure
The Cambodian Tourist visa service fee for Tourist Type T is listed in USD at 30 dollars. A Spanish debit or credit card may convert that charge to euros, add a foreign-currency margin, ask for strong customer authentication, or show a temporary pending amount. The EUR statement figure can be higher than a simple exchange-rate estimate without changing the official Cambodian fee.
Private assistance can be legitimate when it provides form checking, reminders, document review or customer support, but the service cost should be disclosed separately. Paying more does not guarantee approval, change the visa category, or override a Cambodian border decision.
Before retrying a card that appears to fail, open the bank app and check for authentication requests or pending authorisations. Repeated attempts with slightly different surname formatting can create unnecessary confusion.
Timing for Iberian departures
Normal processing is three business days. Spanish travellers should add margin around weekends, Cambodian public holidays, Spanish holiday peaks, image corrections and bank verification. One to two weeks before departure is often practical when the route is stable and the three-month entry window will still cover arrival.
Count time from the Cambodian arrival date. Flights from Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Valencia, Bilbao, Seville, Palma or the Canary Islands may connect through Doha, Istanbul, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City or another hub and land on a later calendar date. The e-Arrival window also depends on Cambodia arrival, not the first Iberian segment.
Separate tickets deserve extra slack. If baggage must be collected in a transit country, that country's entry or transit rules also matter. Cambodia eVisa approval does not authorize travel through Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar, Turkey or any other connecting state.
MAEC, insurance and family communication
Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation provides travel advice and traveller registration for Spaniards abroad. MAEC registration is not a Cambodian visa requirement, but it can help consular communication during a serious incident. It is especially useful for independent itineraries, remote provinces, health vulnerabilities, long regional circuits or families that want a clear contact trail.
Travel insurance should match the real Cambodia plan. Check emergency medical treatment, hospital payment, evacuation, repatriation, missed connections, cancellation, baggage, theft reporting, scooter and motorcycle exclusions, diving, trekking, alcohol-related incidents and pre-existing conditions. Visa approval is not proof that an insurer will pay.
Keep the MAEC or consular contact, insurer emergency number, passport copy, eVisa certificate, e-Arrival QR, first accommodation address and onward itinerary offline. Give a trusted person in Spain enough detail to assist if a phone, wallet or passport disappears.
Families and mixed passports
Every traveller needs an individual review. Spanish children may have shorter passport validity, compound given names, two surnames, or a surname order that differs from the adult travelling with them. Label each approval with the traveller's name and passport number before printing or saving it.
When a minor travels with one parent, relatives, a school group or friends, carry consent and custody documents required by Spanish departure practice, airlines and transit countries. Cambodian eVisa approval does not replace those separate checks.
Mixed-nationality families should avoid assuming one rule applies to everyone. A Spanish parent, a child with another EU passport and a non-EU family member may face different visa and transit duties before reaching Cambodia. Build the itinerary together, but verify each passport separately.
Document loss, changes and overstay
If the Spanish passport is lost before departure, replace it and obtain official guidance before relying on an eVisa tied to the missing document. If the passport is lost, stolen or damaged in Cambodia, report locally where required, contact Spanish consular assistance, and follow Cambodian immigration instructions for exit or record correction.
A replacement travel document does not automatically recreate the Cambodian visa or the entry record. Keep copies of police reports, consular papers and immigration instructions. Do not try to leave with mismatched documents or an expired permission stamp.
Overstay should not be used as itinerary flexibility. Fines, detention risk, future visa difficulty, insurance problems and airline disruption can follow. If illness, accident, passport loss or flight cancellation threatens timely departure, seek help before the permitted stay expires.
Common Spanish mistakes
- Entering one surname when the passport contains two.
- Using an airline nickname instead of the passport identity.
- Changing accent handling between the eVisa, ticket and e-Arrival.
- Confusing three-month entry validity with a three-month stay.
- Selecting Bangkok, Doha or Istanbul as though it were the Cambodian port.
- Relying on Poipet or Cham Yeam despite the temporary eVisa closure.
- Forgetting e-Arrival until check-in or arrival day.
- Retrying card payment before checking bank authentication.
- Assuming MAEC registration or insurance replaces Cambodian immigration documents.
The final audit should compare passport, eVisa PDF, e-Arrival QR, flight booking, first hotel, insurance certificate and payment receipt. Resolve differences before boarding from Spain.
Iberian itinerary examples
A Barcelona traveller may fly through Singapore to Siem Reap, spend several days at Angkor, continue to Phnom Penh and depart to Malaysia. The Cambodian arrival field should be built around SAI, and the later departure does not create a second Cambodian entry. A Madrid traveller may connect through Doha to Phnom Penh and should prepare around KTI. A Bilbao or Valencia traveller using Vietnam first should check whether the route enters Cambodia at Bavet or by air.
Travellers starting in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta or Melilla may have an extra domestic, ferry or Schengen leg before the long-haul sector. That first movement does not change the Cambodian visa facts, but it can create baggage, timing and missed-connection risks. Keep the Cambodia packet ready from the beginning of the journey rather than waiting for the final Asian transfer desk.
For separate tickets, leave time to collect baggage, pass immigration where required, and check in again. If the transit country requires entry permission for self-transfer, solve that question independently. Cambodian eVisa and e-Arrival documents do not answer another country's rules.
Final departure audit
In the last week, complete e-Arrival when the seven-day window opens, then compare the QR record with the eVisa certificate and the passport. Confirm the arrival airport or land crossing still accepts eVisa, the approval remains inside the three-month entry window, and the stay plan fits within the one-month tourist permission.
In the last forty-eight hours, download the visa, QR, insurance certificate, first hotel address and onward plan into an offline folder. Print the essentials. Confirm that the bank card used for travel can receive authentication messages abroad, and keep a second payment method separate from the main wallet. For families, check every passport file individually instead of relying on a shared surname or shared email thread.
Spain departure scenarios
A traveller beginning in Tenerife, Palma or Menorca may first fly to Madrid or Barcelona, then continue through a Gulf or Asian hub. That creates more opportunities for schedule changes than a single long-haul booking. If the final Cambodia sector changes from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, the traveller should verify that the new Cambodian arrival point is still compatible with the eVisa and update the arrival declaration where the official process requires it.
Spanish residents who are not Spanish citizens should not copy this page without checking their own passport. A Spanish residence card, NIE record or EU family document may be useful inside Spain, but Cambodian visa treatment follows nationality and passport type. In mixed groups, store each person's Cambodia file under a distinct filename with given names, both surnames where applicable, passport number and route date.
For travellers booking through an agency, make sure the traveller controls a copy of every approval. An agency email inbox should not be the only place where the eVisa or e-Arrival QR exists. Before leaving home, each adult should know where the offline documents are stored and which port appears on the visa plan.
Language and record consistency
Spanish paperwork may show addresses, province names or family details in several formats, while Cambodian forms focus on passport identity and first accommodation. Keep the application plain and consistent. Use the passport for names, the ticket for flight details and the hotel confirmation for the first address. Do not translate a surname particle, remove the second surname for convenience, or switch between accented and unaccented versions without a technical reason.
When a traveller has a very long name, review the final PDF visually rather than assuming the form stored all fields correctly. If a display truncates a line, compare the core data: passport number, date of birth, nationality and the visible name fields. If the mismatch appears material, use the official correction route before travelling.
Frequently asked questions for Spanish citizens
Do Spanish citizens need a visa for Cambodia?
Yes. A Spanish ordinary passport needs a valid Cambodia visa for a tourist visit.
What is the official Type T Tourist visa service fee?
Cambodia lists the Type T Tourist visa service fee at USD 90, before EUR card conversion or any optional assistance fee.
How long is normal processing?
The ordinary processing guide is three business days, with extra margin recommended for holidays, image corrections and card checks.
How long can a Spanish tourist stay?
Tourist Type T allows one Cambodian entry and a visit of up to one month after admission.
What does three months of validity mean?
It means the visa must be used for entry within that issue-based period. It is not a three-month stay.
When should Cambodia e-Arrival be submitted?
Submit it as a separate arrival declaration during the seven days before Cambodian entry.
How should two surnames be entered?
Use the complete passport identity, including both surnames when they appear on the Spanish passport.
Can I use Poipet or Cham Yeam with eVisa?
No for current eVisa planning. Those crossings are temporarily closed to eVisa entry, so use an accepting port.
Is MAEC registration required for the visa?
No. MAEC registration is a Spanish consular planning tool, not a Cambodian visa requirement.
